At Morning Star Farm, a family owned and operated business in Rockingham, Vermont, we are passionate about growing and tending both herbaceous and woody plants.

Since 1986, we have been cultivating more than 500 varieties of Vermont-hardy perennials, shrubs & trees, including many uncommon and hard-to-find varieties. Because our seedlings are planted directly into our own incredibly healthy soil and not sold until the following spring, our plants are hardy enough to withstand Vermont's harsh winters and will settle into your gardens as mature, rather than first year, plants.

In addition to the plants we sell, Scott raises an orchard with organic pear trees and more than 250 varieties of organic apples, including many heirlooms. We also grow hardy kiwi vines. All of this fruit is available to purchase, in season. Scott is also in the process of grafting exceptional trees and shrubs, such as weeping Cercidiphyllum (Katsura Tree), Fagus sylvatica "Roseomarginata" (tri-color Beech), and Robinia pseudoacacia "Lace Lady" (pendulous, contorted Locust) that will soon be available for you to purchase. For sale now, come check out our lovely Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood), heirloom apple varieties grafted onto standard rootstock (with names like "Sweet 16", "Blue Permain", & "Ashmead’s Kernel"), Ginkgo biloba, Liriodendron (Tulip Tree), Acer griseum (paperbark maple), Physocarpus "Coppertina" (Copper Ninebark), Kolkwitzia "Dreamcatcher" (multi-colored Beautybush) and many other incredible woodies!

Scott has also grafted/rooted some incredible vines such as Actinidia "Arctic Beauty" (ornamental kiwi vine with flowers that smell like lily of the valley and multi-colored foliage), Lonicera "Harlequin" (variegated, NON-INVASIVE honeysuckle vines), Schizophragma hydrangiodes (similar to climbing hydrangea & quite shade tolerant), Clematis "Bill McKenzie" (nodding yellow lantern-like flowers & incredible seed heads), and many others, all ready for sale right now. In addition to the vast array of well-known flowers, we also strive for the unusual with the herbaceous plants that we grow, including a wide variety of shade plants. Some real beauties, for all types of light, include Heucherella "Jeepers Creepers", Mukdenia, Aruncus aethusifolius (dwarf Goatsbeard), Centaurea "Amethyst in Snow" (white perennial Batchelor Button), Paeonia suffruticosa (Tree Peony), Gillenia trifoliate (Bowman’s Root), and Pulsatilla vulgaris. Check out our plant list on this site to see what else we have for sale!

Garden design and dry stonewall building services are also available and after-hours groups are always welcome, with a group discount on all sales.

Our customers return year after year because of the personal attention we give them. Whether you are a beginning gardener or an experienced landscaper, we can meet your unique needs. Give us a call or just stop by our farm.
