In 1984, Scott courted Laurie on our first date with a dried flower bouquet from his first harvest. Ten months later, we were married and actively planning a future of growing flowers together!

We began with our own home perennial gardens and then a dried flower farm. For 15 years, Laurie created unique wreaths and together we pressed flowers and created window suncatchers. We marketed these creations at east coast craft shows and the Brattleboro Area Farmers' Market – where we continue to sell our plants every Saturday, May through September, from 9am to 2pm.

During the last 5 years of the dried flower business, we found ourselves transitioning into our current business. With 4 children, it had become difficult to keep going away to shows. With the opening of our retail Perennial Farm in 1999, our hearts felt full in ways we had never imagined!

Most recently we have had a few much-appreciated honors. In the People, Places, Plants Garden Guide (Early Summer 2008 issue: a fabulous magazine for Northeastern gardeners), we were chosen as a spotlighted garden center! Also, in the spring of 2008, Laurie was chosen as 1 of a small group of "Women in Agriculture" honorees, by the Brattleboro Strolling of the Heifers committee. There was a wonderful presentation that filled our hearts. It truly is a wonderful honor to be recognized by both, for our hard work and our healthy and beautiful plants!

Growing these amazing flowers, trees & shrubs, and having customers come right to the farm, is both wonderful & fulfilling, and we have met incredible, fascinating people through this business, both at our farm and also at the farmers' markets we have participated in. In addition to plants, Morning Star Perennials has grown many friendships!
